The Role:


We are seeking compassionate and resilient Learning Support Assistants to work in a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school environment. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and helping them build the emotional, social, and academic skills they need to thrive.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students regulate their emotions, stay engaged in learning, and develop positive relationships. You’ll work closely with teaching staff to provide personalised support and create a nurturing, structured environment.


What we are looking for:

  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly in SEMH or SEND settings

  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trust with students

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills

  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations

  • A team player who can work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff


Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in a specialist or alternative provision school

  • Training in Team Teach, MAPA, or similar de-escalation techniques

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches or therapeutic education

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching & Learning, Mental Health First Aid)


Responsibilities:

  • Support students 1:1 or in small groups during lessons and activities

  • Help manage behaviour and emotional regulation using consistent strategies

  • Foster positive relationships and provide encouragement and praise

  • Assist with personal development, social skills, and emotional wellbeing

  • Liaise with staff to adapt learning materials and monitor student progress

  • Promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
