The Role:
We are looking for a dedicated and resilient Teacher to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school. This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine impact on the lives of young people who face emotional and behavioural challenges in mainstream settings.
As a Teacher in an SEMH school, you will deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that inspire students and promote both academic progress and personal development. You will play a key role in helping students build confidence, improve self-regulation, and achieve success in a supportive, structured environment.
What we are looking for:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Experience teaching students with SEMH or SEND needs (or a strong interest in doing so)
Ability to create calm, consistent, and engaging learning environments
Strong classroom management and de-escalation skills
Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trusting relationships with students
A reflective and flexible approach to teaching and behaviour support
Nice-to-have:
Previous experience in alternative provision or PRU settings
Training in Team Teach, MAPA, or similar de-escalation approaches
Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic teaching practices
Experience writing and working with EHCPs and behaviour plans
Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver tailored lessons that meet the individual needs of students
Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
Support students’ social and emotional development alongside academic progress
Work closely with LSAs, therapists, and support staff to deliver holistic education
Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly
Maintain positive communication with parents, carers, and external professionals
